벼루의 먹물 속에서 잉어 세 마리가
부화를 하였다
비늘을 서로 비비며
승천을 꿈꾸고
병풍의 폭포를 뛰어올랐지만
쏟아지는 물의 힘은 너무나 강했다
사력을 다해 뛰어오르기를 수십 번
한 마리는 기진맥진하여 흐르는
물살에 휩쓸려가 버리고
한 마리는 정면 돌파를 포기하고
가장자리의 물을 타고 기어코 올라갔지만
한 마리는 지느러미를 접고
냇고랑과 논 다랑이에 흘러들어
피라미 붕어와 함께 물풀을 뜯어먹다가도
가끔 자신의 수염을 만져보며,
논물에 비친 푸르고 푸른 하늘을 내려다보고
흰 구름에 가려 보이지 않는
금 비늘 옷을 입고 있을 한 마리 잉어를 생각하다가
별이 되어버린 한 마리 잉어가 생각이 나
눈을 가만히 감다가도
고개를 절레절레 흔들고,

나는 더 많은 붕어와 피라미 떼를 그의 곁에 그려달라고

Three Carp
- Studying Under the Same Master -

Jung Ha-sun

Inside the ink of the inkstone, three carp
hatched.
Rubbing their scales against one another,
they dreamed of ascending to heaven
and leapt up the waterfall on the folding screen,
but the force of the pouring water was far too strong.
Dozens of times they leapt with all their might;
one, utterly exhausted, was swept away
by the rushing current,
and another gave up the frontal assault,
clambering up along the edge to finally reach the top.
But the last one folded its fins,
drifted into the ditches and terraced paddies,
and nibbled on waterweeds alongside minnows and Crucian carp.
Yet, from time to time, it would touch its own whiskers,
look down at the deep blue sky reflected in the paddy water,
and think of the carp that would be wearing a golden-scaled robe,
hidden behind white clouds and out of sight.
Then, remembering the other carp that had become a star,
it would gently close its eyes,
only to shake its head side to side.

I wanted to ask the painter
to draw even more schools of Crucian carp and minnows by its side.

ont éclos.
Frottant leurs écailles les unes contre les autres,
elles rêvaient d'ascension céleste
et bondissaient sur la cascade du paravent,
mais la force de l'eau torrentielle était bien trop puissante.
Des dizaines de fois, elles sautèrent de toutes leurs forces ;
l'une, épuisée, fut emportée
par le courant impétueux,
une autre renonça à l'assaut frontal
et finit par grimper en suivant les bords.
Mais la dernière replia ses nageoires,
se laissa glisser dans les fossés et les rizières en terrasses,
et se mit à brouter les herbes aquatiques avec les vairons et les carassins.
Pourtant, de temps en temps, elle touchait ses propres barbillons,
regardait le ciel si bleu reflété dans l'eau de la rizière,
et songeait à cette carpe qui devait porter une robe d'écailles d'or,
